Since you're going next year, maybe you could make an appointment with a DVC rep. This time we are staying in a Park View Studio for five days and then we will switch to a 1BR room for the balance of the trip. They have a washer and dryer so we only need to bring 5 or 6 days of clothing. We got spoiled and new stay at only 1BR hotel suites. Just think how much 14 days would cost at a regular Deluxe hotel. We pay around $1500/year in maintenance fees. Bay Lake Towers (now closed to new membership) is one of the lowest maintenance hotels. The secret is to get into a property with low maintenance costs. We definitely save money staying at a DVC property. If not, you will have to visit WDW and make the transaction at the park. I would call Disney Vacation Club to verify that your state allows this type of real estate transaction. You can make reservations in your home hotel 11 months in advance, 7 months in advance for other Disney Vacation club hotels. If you decide to do it, don't be like us and get insufficient days to meet our needs. There is even a Disney Dining that is available for members. We get great discounts on meals (Tables in Wonderland) and merchandise. It took us about 7 years to reach parity with staying at the hotels. The blackout dates are very few on days that we are never in Florida. Although we are not residents of Florida, we are still allowed to purchase the Gold Annual pass which is the best value. You also get great discounts in annual passes. The Vacation Club is great if you go to WDW very often. You're going when the crowds are the lowest so you shouldn't have to wait in line very much except, of course, at new attractions like Pandora land. The newest Gitzo tripods are great for quick setups and take downs. ![]() How do you like the Vacation Club? Does it amount to being cheaper then a resort. I see a lot of fireworks photos by Walt & Friend and Transportation Center. I guess the twist lock legs aren't a bad thing then? I'm not going till later January(hope the weather is good and crowds aren't real bad). ![]() The next best place is supposed to be the Transportation Center. I've read that the best place to park for the show is near the Walt and Friend statue. The crowds are awful for the fireworks show. I'm going to try to photograph the show from the Transportation Center this year. Maybe if you're lucky, you be able to see the holiday show. The world of Pandora is open now and we will spend some time there. This year we are staying at our home resort, the Contemporary Hotel (Bay Lake Towers). We own vacation club property so we go there once a year and stay for about 14 days. I'm leaving for Walt Disney World in the fall. With Gitzo, it only takes 1/4 turn to lock the leg. Then it's just a matter of locking the four locks per leg. The tripods with a twist lock on the legs have a setup advantage, you can grab all four twist locks and twist them as one, then pull from the last leg segment and extend all four sections at one time. In January I'm heading to Walt Disney World and will take it for the fireworks □ Right now I'm not using a tripod much. It's on my wish list along with a Speedlite Flash and a couple of lenses. The Globe Trotter looks pretty substantial. I'm definitely going to invest in a GlobeTrotter. Im not a big fan of the twist legs, not sure if it's just me, because my other one had the lever type. It's not the greatest, but it will work for awhile. I picked up a Prima Photo Small Travel Tripod on clearance for $50. The RoadTrip fits in a standard carry on case easily, and we didn't have any problems taking it to and around South Africa. The RoadTrip was the best I found in terms of size, weight, quality and price. Yes, the GlobeTrotter is a bit sturdier, but you have other compromises. I don't use a tripod very often, and when I do I want to carry it with the minimum of fuss, so size and weight were very important. I looked at both the RoadTrip and the GlobeTrotter, and in the end went with the RoadTrip. To save size and weight, you're taking a big step down to the Roadtrip, but it designed similarly. That would make a "good" all-purpose travel tripod. In the Mefoto line, it should be the Globetrotter you look at first. Am I allowed to have it in my camera bag or does it need to go in my checked bag? I would like something that folds down pretty small for traveling. The ones I've been looking at are: MeFoto Backpacker, Oben AC-1441, Vanguard VEO 235AB, Oben AC-1341 and MeFoto Roadtrip. Ive been looking at tripods, I have a cheap one(it was a gift), that I'm using for a class. ![]()
